Cleaning up Fall

Sorry, I haven’t been blogging much. I have been getting the gardens ready for winter, pulling out all the dead annuals, trimming the dead off the perennials and leaves, leaves and more leaves. I do leave some of the seed heads for the birds to munch on in the winter and I leave some dead perinnals for the birds to hide from the hawks. The leaves are going on the garden and my hubby will till them in the soil, they will break down over winter. I have picked up more dead sticks/limbs than I care to think about. It’s Mother Nature’s way of pruning the trees.

We have been having crazy weather! I didn’t think fall weather was going to get here and then BAM! It was freezing for a week and then last week it was near 70 everyday.  Last night we had wind and rain, it left the trees bare of their leaves; one more clean up should do it. Of course with this up and down weather I have had a crushing sinus headache. The kind that you can’t think or function, your face is all puffy and you look 5 years older. Yup, that’s me.

Cathy~ your week sounds much like the week we had about 2 weeks ago. The weather was absolutely fall perfect. We did lots of yard work and lots of raking of leaves as well. I finally cut back all my garden. We however did not put leaves on…we never know which way is better. We don’t till the leaves into the soil so it makes for such a harder spring clean up with all the wet leaves just laying on top. Maybe next year we’ll try mulching the leaves into the soil. Any way, I’m glad to be done with the garden for the winter.

Hope you are feeling better too.
